How to look chic and slender with skinny jeans

Skinny jeans, which in other seasons may be not so easy to wear, in winter become a very versatile staple that can be worn on a daily basis, thanks to the fact that they allow you to balance any extra volume in your upper body—quite common for cooler months—thanks to a minimal design that helps harmonize the silhouette. Furthermore, a pair of skinny jeans can be bought at an inexpensive price, so you can get faultless results even with cheaper brands. However, it’s essential to choose carefully to get a nice fit and good wearability. . First of all, the elasticity of the material—which depends on the percentage of elastane—should not be excessive. If the amount of elastane is about 3–4 percent, the wearability is just perfect, and the shaping effect is at its maximum. If it’s lower (1–2 percent), the jeans could end up being quite uncomfortable (unless it contains a little percentage of polyester or other synthetic fibers). Elastane in percentages over 5% should generally be avoided because the fabric can lose its shaping effect, and the jeans become excessively loose fitting in a few hours. . If you want a chic and super flattering outcome, remember that when pairing skinny jeans with pumps or sneakers, it’s essential to […]

Gloves: an unexpected tool to look taller

Years ago, when I was into one of my “I-feel-so-fat-I-only-wear-black” periods, my cousin Benedetta gave me a pair of yellow suede gloves. Yes, yellow.  Not a “Mickey-Mouse-gloves” yellow, luckily – their hue was more like mustard, not too bad in itself, yet certainly not similar to any of the dark hues that were the staples in my wardrobe at that time. The yellow gloves were soft and warm, so I didn’t want to throw them away. I decided to only use them for cycling early in the morning when I was not supposed to meet anyone I knew. A few weeks later, though, while looking at myself in a full-length mirror with my yellow gloves on, I realized that for some unknown reason I looked taller (and, therefore, also slimmer) than when I paired dark gloves with a similarly dark coat. This made me realize that in winter, gloves are key accessories that—unexpectedly enough—can modify the proportions of your whole figure to your advantage. .   Not only a nice pair of gloves is a tool to enhance your outfit – adding a polished touch to your chic style – but they may also help you flatter your figure. Gloves whose color match that of your coat can produce a […]

How to pick out top-quality pieces on sales

Speaking by personal experience, I usually only buy on sale and very seldom purchase something full-priced. I love the thrill of the chase, and even if this may require some time, I find it totally exciting and fun. Though, as I do not love crowded stores, I usually shop online, which aside from allowing a wider choice, has a significant extra perk: you can fill your wish list with everything you like far before the sales period, and make your purchase only after the prices have considerably reduced – and if something accidentally sold out, it means that it was not for you. This will allow you to only buy what calls your name and to take all the needed time for your choice, with positive effects on your budget (and style). I usually remove from my wish list about the 80-90% of the items I put there when obsessed with shopping fever, which consents me a higher budget to spend on a few, top-quality items. . “Great – you may think – but how do I decide what’s a good purchase, and what items will lay unworn in my closet and only make me feel guilty any time I look at them?” This is a good question, and it […]
